Erican was founded in 1990 with a deceptively simple aim: to raise the English-language ability of Malaysians so they could communicate more successfully in school, in college and — most importantly — in the workplace.
Three decades later, we've guided over 400,000 learners from 50+ nationalities to greater confidence in English, becoming a premier brand in language education and training. Our classrooms bring together students from the Middle East, East Asia, Central Asia, Europe and across Southeast Asia — a genuinely global place to learn.

Datuk Eric Chong, Founder
Our founder grew up in a Chinese-speaking household and, by his own account, was an unmotivated student who disliked English. As a teenager, he couldn't speak a single word of it.
Sent to Singapore for high school, he was held back two years and mocked for his English — until a teacher's stinging challenge, "Which kampung are you from? Why can't you speak a word of English?", sparked a transformation. He resolved to master English in a single year, starting by memorising the Oxford dictionary over three months.
Within twelve months he was one of the top students in his school and a champion English public speaker. That lived proof — that fluency is learnable, not innate — became the foundation of Erican, and of the name itself: Eric + can.

The Erican method, in detail
Our flagship programmes use a distinctive two-part structure that balances headline instruction with personalised practice.
- Main Class — live online, often taught by Datuk Eric Chong: writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation.
- Tutorial Class — with experienced teachers, online or face-to-face: speaking and listening.
- Module-based lessons with regular evaluation, so you master each unit before moving on.
- Edu-tainment — interactive games, multimedia and group projects keep learning lively.
- Six levels, about 8 weeks each, aligned to CEFR (A1–C2), Cambridge and IELTS.
